WEEK ONE
WEEK ONE
26 Villagers
After the news from the town hall, Puffin Town might not seem as tranquil as before—if it ever did. But the sun dawns, and the rooster crows on a new week, that seems peaceful enough, for now. There's farming to be done for those who don't want to subsist off the vast canned food selection at Joja Mart, or you could take up your hand fishing or even venturing into the mines.
If you want to lay around on the grass taking count of the shapes in the clouds no one will stop you, an eager duck might even stop by to give you a pillow; but the cost of the harvest looms overhead, even if you choose not to see it.
And so too does: confetti? Monday, at precisely noon, everyone will find themselves showered with confetti from seemingly nowhere. The culprit largely seems to be the ducks, but if you're somewhere closed off like bathroom, there's no obvious instigator in sight. Though if you squint real hard, you might see the wisps of something? It's hard to see through all the colorful paper, though. Regardless, you'll soon find yourself accosted by a duck with a flyer, printed and worn:
!Festival!
The Colors You Want to See Festival!
Do you find the walls of your cottage drab? Do you want to add a special touch to make your home YOURS? Stop by the general store this week and pick up some art supplies to decorate your life! NOTE: Puffin town does not take responsibility for any damage incurred during the decorating process. Participation will be rewarded with an item from the community stockpile! Please see the event organizer in the community center to submit your polaroid photograph of your entry. (Polaroids are available at the general store.)
Maybe calling it a festival is a stretch, but it's certainly a group activity nonetheless. And hey, there's even prizes! The duck, ever eager, presses another paper into your hand, though this one is handwritten, in a cursive elegant hand.

!Gift Giving
Someone told me that receiving a gift is a reward in itself. But if you share with others, you deserve something tangible, don't you? Try it, you might be surprised at what you receive.
(( OOC: Murder proposals are due by Tuesday at 4 PM EST / 1 PM PST, for the current week's murder, but feel free to submit for later weeks if you like!))

My name is Colette. If you like a vegetable or fruit more than thers plesase ell me! it's for something.
[Colette tried her best to keep her grammar and spelling well, but she's not used to this sensory experience of using a touchpad. Raine wouldn't approve of her mistakes, she's sure, but oh well. What she doesn't know won't hurt her, right? She'll just do better next time!]

[He can barely see the damn keypad, but it's probably not great to ignore the message from this little device. He is definitely like a grandpa on Facebook and thinks she's texted him directly.]

During the morning, he can be found tentatively examining seeds at the general store. He picks a variety of different apple seeds and a trowel and leaves without paying, and, most importantly, without speaking to the duck shopkeep - inspiring a rousing, painful, uproar of sad quacks.
Come midday, whilst he's out sprinkling his seeds into the soil, he's suddenly accosted by the ducks and drenched in a cloud of confetti. He's as silent and as morose as usual for a heavy moment, but then...is that...laughter...? No...it couldn't be...surely not...
The ducks must've put him in a good mood, because for the rest of the afternoon he's spent decorating the corpse flower cabin. With...black paint, and paper cut-out skulls. Maybe he's not in that good of a mood.]

Finally, anyone can see her outside of Flame Lily Farm with several sheets of colored paper. She's sitting near the front door, ripping and folding the paper, making something with them.

With his backpack stuffed, he goes back to the corpse flower farm to decorate his portion of the room. He first moves the bed away from the wall a little and covers it with his bedsheet to keep at least the inside of it clean, and then tapes off the area he was going to with some washi tape. Then came a whole while of trying to decide on what to paint. It was acrylic, so it wasn't going to take forever to dry like oils were, but it also meant that it wasn't as flexible. He thought about doing a sky with clouds but that was too stereotypical, wasn't it? And in any case, wasn't his style. So he branishes the wall with a dark brown, then blends a dark blue at the edges. He'd think of what to do after that... Hinata as an angel stepping into the light from the dark was probably...... going to earn him a lot of judgment from his roommates, so that was probably out too.
One of the roomies will probably find him sighing over this blank dark canvas. Well, he has the week, right?
Later on, he'll try his best at planting some seeds he was rather curious about (what's a fairy rose? Oh, why was the red cabbage so purple and not red? Jazz... ? Ancient?? Mostly it's flowers though and useless for actual food). He doesn't have any sort of green thumb though, so he's just going to try in a little corner, okay?
Otherwise, he'll be in town, with one of the small notebook, with his backpack of a few select supplies. Anyone can run into him on his lone art trip, as he flops down on different locations, drawing various scenery and wildlife. He's a little melancholy, remembering trips like this with the rest of the club, but he's distracted as he focuses on the things he draws. It also serves as inspiration for ideas for his room wall anyway. But any passerby is free to tap him on the shoulder to talk.]

[Since waking up here the other day, Healy has largely kept to himself. The others... They're excitable. Dramatic. Not really his speed. Nor is farming. Or ducks, for that matter. He's always felt a distinct neutrality toward Los Angeles, but at least he knew what to expect from the city. His life made sense.
He did grab himself some new clothes, at least.
Now, first thing in the morning, he's standing just inside the eastern border of the town, scrutinizing the dense fog with his hands in his pockets. He turns when he hears you come up behind him.]
I'd think twice before making a run for it, kid. Those ladies were saying it's bad news out there.
movie theater
[Healy is perusing the film selection at the movie theater when he's accosted by a rain of confetti. It startles him—a tough thing to do—and he nearly suckerpunches the duck responsible. The flyer is what stops him.
Do you want to add a special touch to make your home YOURS?]
No, I really don't.
[He tries to hand the flyer back but, oh, the duck has already taken off. He shrugs and tucks it into one of the movie shelves, then goes back to looking through the collection.]
elsewhere
[In the afternoon, Healy can be found attempting to plant some seeds at Jade Vine Farm. Does he know what he's doing? He does not! SOS!
In the evening, catch him at the bar in the saloon, sipping grape juice and scratching his head over his flip phone. Why are the buttons so small???]

[ For the entire morning (after a quick run to the general store), Keito can be found doing his best to plant crops for future food purposes at the Ghost Orchid Farm. For someone running around here and there with apparent boundless energy, he's doing a pretty good job of keeping the seeds spaced out without taking up a lot of real farm estate.
To be safe though, he's planting them a little out of the way to avoid any mistakes he might make affecting everyone else's crops. Cooperation is important, after all! ]
Potatoes, garlic... What else should be planted?
2. timmy's in the well
[ Unfortunately, it doesn't take too long for mistakes to be made. Anyone who happens to be around the farm's well might hear the sounds of avian creatures, something clanging, and the voice of a distressed sounding boy.
Any investigation into this will reveal one (1) curious rooster, one (1) duck with flyers, and one (1) Keito three-fourths of the way into a well.
Everything's fine. ]
I...I think this is the bucket?
3. a letter a day
[ After being presumably freed from the fate of being stuck in a well, Keito will make his way to the general store (again). It doesn't take him long to grab stationary, thank a duck, find a seat outside nearby, and spread out all the materials needed for a makeshift desk. For a while, he's just sits there, staring at the empty paper while twirling a pencil around. ]
Hmm, I guess I shouldn't start on hard mode after all.
[ And with that said, he finally starts putting pencil to paper.
Everything's fine. ]

So Colette knows she likely is going to spend...quiiiiite some time in Puffin Town. This is her fate now.
General Store
Colette has left her mark in the world, and by that I mean, uh.
Truthfully she'll try to fix it before the sheriff or the alderman notice, because Colette knows this is just getting into more trouble and she doesn't need that in her life. Colette just finished hammering the planks of wood as shown there.
Anyone noticing the hole while she's nearby will get a sheepish glance before she looks away]
...it was already like this...when I got here?
[Real convincing. Look, she's not proud of how this is something that has happened way more times than it should! So she tries to give a half-hearted attempt to pretend it wasn't her even though it's plain to see she did this.
Chocolate Cosmos Farm
Come on, come all! Because Colette is being a busy bee. Not only she has begun to plant stuff on the fertile soil, she also dragged one of the tables from inside the cottage, putting it by the shade of anything big enough to give it, and has DIY projects for decoration purposes going on, mostly made of cardboard and the such. Colette is going back and forth between one and the other because there's just so much to be done, and also because having a lot of things to do means murder is deeper and deeper in the 'to-do' list. Anyone, whether it's visitors or residents of the farm, gets greeted]
How are you holding up? Are you alright?

Mines
[Screw the apparent lack of true exit, Walter is going to investigate the mines for a way out, armed with an oil lamp, a pick-axe, and a spray can of paint that was intended for arts and crafts. He's marking walls that feel too load-bearing to safely destroy with an "X" and searching for possibly hollow walls to mark for future detonation.
At some point, a slime creature seems to be taking interest in Walter, and he starts swatting at it with the pick-axe despite its resilience.] Back off! What are you?!
Beach
[After his mining misadventures, Walter has taken to going fishing, thinking perhaps it might be a relaxing hobby after all. He's never gotten that father-and-son fishing experience on either side, but he's not about to admit that he has little fishing experience either.
Clearly this isn't a hobby to stimulate people, Walter thinks with an annoyed sigh staring at the rod in the water.]

He's also eyeing up the jars and chicken wire. Normal interests.
Before it's any reason to cause alarm, he disappears into the mines for essentially the rest of the day. He's armed with a shovel and a torchlamp. He seemingly doesn't react when a slime launches itself at him from the walls, but with a quick flourish of the shovel he sends it flying.
Ah - look, here's someone to help.]

But eventually, he'll need a break though. So he'll relax by going to pet some cute animals at the doggie daycare. Of course, he takes his makeshift sketchbook, though, in case they're being so cute he can't help but draw them. Which, of course, inevitably does happen. He'll give them to anyone who comes by though, if they like them.
For even more fresh hair, he visits the beach to poke at seashells and things that have washed up on shore. He stares at the cliffs and thinks about those somber paintings with cliff faces that seem to reach up miles and miles. Outloud he muses: ] Maybe it's more like a Monet....

[ After Keito finishes his now daily farming tasks, he runs over to the general store to grab a frankly absurd amount of stuff: most noticeably a few scarecrows, blankets, and a lot of paint. Through the power of other general store merchandise (and probably multiple trips), he eventually manages to bring this haul all the way back to the Ghost Orchid farm. And he sure doesn't waste any time, placing two of the scarecrows as decoration in front of the house.
The last scarecrow finds a new place around his area of the farm. Unlike the others, however, Keito's out to decorate it. Using the blankets, a sharp object, and paint, he tries his best to make comfy-looking clothes for the scarecrow.
After a while (and a few more adjustments here and there to its head), he wraps a green-dyed makeshift scarf around its necklace. ]
...It doesn't feel like it's enough?
2. town
[ Sometime after that, he can be found running around the entire town, radiating a lot of nervous energy that he's clearly trying to burn. ]

OFF-TOPIC
THURSDAY
no subject
[Around midday, Baldr comes back from the general store with his arms full of paper, crayons, and other assorted art supplies. It's definitely way more than a single person can possibly use, but then again, that may be exactly his intent...
After pulling one of the tables outside, he can be found either sitting there working hard on one of his masterpieces, or busy hanging them up on the outside of the house where they can be seen by anyone approaching the front door.
... they're definitely... something?]
Mines
[A bit later on in the afternoon, once his decorating is finished, he's going to be heading down into the mines with an oil lamp to search for any signs of spirits after the discussion at the meeting the other day. Though he's no expert on this particular topic, from what he knows this is as good a place as any to go hunting, and considerably less dangerous than attempting to wander outside of the town into the fog.]
How deep do these go, I wonder...
[He sure looks like he intends to find out! ... he doesn't have any weapons with him, though. Hmm.]
Saloon
[Evening finds him in the saloon, nursing a glass of sake that he managed to sweetalk out of the bartender duck as he flips through the songs in the jukebox. Judging from the frown on his face and the way he only listens to each song for a minute or so before he changes to another one, he... doesn't seem to like any of them, really!]
This is supposed to be music?
[Sorry to anyone who actually wants to hear more than thirty seconds of a particular song...]

[ For a short while in the afternoon, Keito can be found fishing at the beach. He is...not particularly good at it, but he seems to have caught three. But sometime after that, he seems to be losing his attention in actual fishing, simply staring out into the sea instead.
In fact, he doesn't seem to realize his line is moving at all. ]
2. community center
[ Closer to the evening, Keito is in the community center with a stack of papers and books, trying to write down some relevant recipes and interesting tidbits from the self-help books. He doesn't appear that bored, but he does start talking aloud once enough time passes. ]
Hmm, copying this much at once just makes me think of exam time... It'd be nice if we could just duplicate these on demand. But I'd settle for storybooks.
