It's not. It's another ritual, like selling your soul to the devil, or mutilating yourself, or committing suicide, or any variety of permanent rituals you can put yourself through. You shouldn't automatically resort to any of those and treat them as just another free option you can fake to get out of your current situation.

Me personally? I'd rather kill myself than sign my body away like that.

Loss and sacrifice are all a part of life. People will shove themselves into unhappy marriages for the sake of status or rank all the time. You're just upset that you had your ideal of love shattered in your face and are now trying to dissuade us because you realized that "happily ever after" is nothing more than a fairy tale.
