WEEK TWO

23 Villagers

Three people have fallen and a tower has risen. Along with it, some of the restraints on your mind have dispersed and a memory has returned to you - is it precious, is it painful? Is it cherished, is it loathed?

Mercilessly, dawn breaks on another morning. The rooster still calls, and the crops still need tending to. Rise and shine, Puffin Town! It seems like the residents are not the only thing that has chosen to rise, as a few more establishments have opened up for exploration. The sound of moo-ing near the farms may feel especially inviting here - how about making some new additions to your farms, to drown out your loneliness?

There is no festival just yet but if you question the ducks on it, some excited quacking will herald fun things to come later in the week. Some of the ducks will also wave the gift notes from last week; regardless of murder, being kind to your neighbors is still encouraged! Can't let our beautiful town sink into gloom and doom, right?

(( OOC: Murder proposals are due by Tuesday at 4 PM EST / 1 PM PST, for the current week's murder, but feel free to submit for later weeks if you like!

We have also added a page to report your Astera planting - this does not need to have been threaded, we're just taking stock on an OOC level.

Further, the Gift Mechanic has been updated. All turned in threads will now yield a character specific item as a reward! We're only dipping into the random gacha once all personalized rewards have been given out.))

Trying to gather as much information as you could...I'll admit, I haven't exactly looked through any of the books here myself.

What are they about, exactly?

Spirits and fairytales.

[ His lips quirk up at the edges as he lifts up one heavy book of fairytales. ]

There are others related to alchemy as well, though I'm more fond of the fairytales...

[ They look closer at the book Kurapika's picked up. ]

Oh, those sound like a wonderful time. Perhaps I might look through some of those myself.

[ They do back up a bit, remembering that he mentioned something about spirits, though. ]

...Is knowledge of certain spirits particularly common in your home?

[ As they're looking at that book more closely, Kurapika decides to offer it for them to take. ]

Certain spirits? I wouldn't say so. Spirits themselves don't really exist where I'm from, not in the sense that many here would expect them to.

[ His hand settles on another book, one about spirits. ]

Where I'm from, someone's aura or "Nen" is a manifestation of their very life force that can be wielded as abilities or weapons. Sometimes, when a Nen user dies, their Nen can become exponentially more powerful, their abilities manifesting as a result of whatever strong grudge they died harboring.

That Nen can seek out the object of their hatred, and even manifest as curses. That's really the only kind of "spirits" we have.

[ Enkidu takes the book carefully and opens it, excitedly flipping carefully through the pages.

Though, they look on over when Kurapika manages to answer. ]

"Nen" sounds like it can be quite the difficult aspect to deal with. It sounds potentially as if someone's energy became a bit more alive, though I can tell the small differences right away.

...Are you a Nen user, Kurapika?

Really? If I had my abilities here, then I wonder if you'd be able to detect them right away.

[ Idly, he flips through the pages of that book about spirits. ]

I am one, yes. I'm what is called a "Specialist", someone who has a unique skill.

[enkiboo]

I imagine I would.

We should really find a way to unlock our abilities...

[ Alas. That seems to be a difficult hill to climb, tho. ]

Specialists must be rare then, right?

[revengier]

They are. Nen is what you make of it, so even Specialists have their work cut out for them, if they want their abilities to serve a real purpose.

What purpose do your abilities serve, Kurapika?

[ Wow, Enkidu just going right for it?

Kurapika pauses briefly, his hand stilling over a book. ]

To get revenge.

[enkiboo]

[ Enkidu has no fears...

But, they're not judging Kurapika's purpose or anything. Why would they? They were created to be a tool themselves. ]

Revenge?

...I hope you manage to get what you need to have done.

[revengier]

I'm partway there.

[ He glances over at Enkidu. Honestly, Kurapika isn't surprised that they took his answer in stride, but still. Part of him reels from it anyway. ]

It's why I'm determined to look for a way back home, though. I need to finish what I started.
