23 Villagers

Three people have fallen and a tower has risen. Along with it, some of the restraints on your mind have dispersed and a memory has returned to you - is it precious, is it painful? Is it cherished, is it loathed?

Mercilessly, dawn breaks on another morning. The rooster still calls, and the crops still need tending to. Rise and shine, Puffin Town! It seems like the residents are not the only thing that has chosen to rise, as a few more establishments have opened up for exploration. The sound of moo-ing near the farms may feel especially inviting here - how about making some new additions to your farms, to drown out your loneliness?

There is no festival just yet but if you question the ducks on it, some excited quacking will herald fun things to come later in the week. Some of the ducks will also wave the gift notes from last week; regardless of murder, being kind to your neighbors is still encouraged! Can't let our beautiful town sink into gloom and doom, right?

(( OOC: Murder proposals are due by Tuesday at 4 PM EST / 1 PM PST, for the current week's murder, but feel free to submit for later weeks if you like!

We have also added a page to report your Astera planting - this does not need to have been threaded, we're just taking stock on an OOC level.

Further, the Gift Mechanic has been updated. All turned in threads will now yield a character specific item as a reward! We're only dipping into the random gacha once all personalized rewards have been given out.))

It's nice that we finally have some. It was a pretty poor excuse for a farm before.

Haha. Not every farm comes with livestock. But I agree that they certainly make them feel more complete.

Have you ever cared for a farm animal before?

I don't think bunnies or dogs really count, do they?

[ So that's a no. She shakes her head to go with it. ]

It's been forever for that, too. Childhood pets.

While you can find rabbits and dogs on farms, livestock are a bit different, yes.

[He casts his gaze back to the animals beyond the fence, this time with a bit more focus.]

If you decide to take one back to our farm, I suppose I could give you a few pointers.

[ This is... a difficult consideration. Bibi knows that she's older now and no longer liable to making the same dumb mistakes she did when she was a kid, but there's a reason she never adopted another pet. Because nothing could replace Snowball but also...

... what if she kills it again? What if it's not age, it's her? ]

You're an animal doctor, right? Can you save them even when things get really bad?

[Dongrang doesn't realize how tightly he's gripping the fence.

"Say, Dongrang… How long are you gonna stick to your vet routine? I made precious time in my packed schedule to check out what Young-ji’s group was like… and all I see are children’s playthings."

"By the way… What made you so passionate about curing animals? They can’t pay the bills or anything. How are you gonna make a living?"

A shaky exhale escapes him. He swallows hard.]

I, ah...not anymore. I gave up on that path a while ago.

[Could he still save them like he used to, though? Probably. But is it worth his time?]

[ Even stuck in her own thoughts as she is, it's hard to miss that Dongrang is going through his own version of anguish right now. Bibi doesn't have empathy (isn't sure if she could feel it if she tried), but there's curiosity instead. Taking an interest in another person is really the best she can do. ]

Why? It sounds like wonderful work.

I thought so too.

[He really did love it. Nursing those animals back to health brought him so much fulfillment.

It wasn't enough.]

But it wasn't the kind of work that I could live off of. To have better opportunities, I needed to do something with more impact. A Corporation in the Nests isn't going to notice some meager veterinarian from the Backstreets who cares for livestock and strays.
