TRIAL ONE

TRIAL

Once the various investigations have concluded, and the majority of the evidence has been dropped off with Makima and the ducks -- said ducks will scatter to start shepherding any travelers along to JojaMart, for some reason! Those already at JojaMart have a little less walking to do. Meantime, Makima has loaded the evidence onto the daycare wagon -- carefully packaged, because who wants a spill here -- and driven it off after the ducks.

There is, in fact, a back entrance to the JojaMart -- almost like a loading bay, but once it's opened and the wagon has been driven in, you can see that there's a small podium there along with a number of chairs and small tables. It looks like extra pieces used in either the Community Center or other areas around town may be stored here. The ceiling is tall and it's roomy, there's a scant few windows, but the white LED ceiling lighting and rather bare interior is only livened up by some larger spare whiteboards, extra shelving containing tools and knickknacks and a plant or two.

Once everyone is in -- Adela, Makima, a number of assistant ducks and the current inhabitants of the village -- the loading bay door is tugged closed by some enterprising assistants. There's a small door that probably leads into the front of JojaMart, but that's it. One of the ducks sets about serving tea in the slightly gloomy atmosphere.

You're welcome to examine the evidence in the wagon, discuss amongst yourselves, and figure out whodunnit in these first murders.

(( OOC: Welcome to your first trial! You'll have 7 hours (until 8 PM EST/5 PM PST) to vote one (1) person guilty of murder. As this is scapegoat style, a correct vote is not necessary. Please remember to vote unless otherwise discussed with the mods, as that is our AC for this game. ))

The sewers have Beelzebub and anything throw into the ocean would just watch up eventually.

Or Erika is right and they were drawing inspiration from the book even if they took a few liberties. I can't claim I know much about the psychology of murderers.

Inspiration more than a direct recreation, yes. The method used in the book wouldn't be practical.

[Can't believe she's actually considering the merits of this.]

If out culprit is someone who's not used to... criminal endeavors, it could be the only thing they could think of for disposing the body, and that would fit in with how uncertain everything about their actions seem.

Which would narrow down the suspects even further, wouldn't it? At least get rid of a couple options.

It's not an entirely nonsensical way to get rid of a body, I'll admit. If they'd have cleaned up the blood, it would have gone unnoticed for considerably longer.

But it does feel more like the idea someone might have if they weren't entirely used to killing like this. Not a seasoned serial killer but more of a prospective enthusiast.

It just strikes me as odd that someone would choose such a labor-intensive method of hiding the evidence when there are other routes that would have been far easier. While I can't speak to the psychology of murderers either, were I in that situation, I know I certainly would not have considered something quite so elaborate.

Does that mean they already knew that Beelzebub would be in the sewers?

[ because that sounds kind of like it would a surprise to vayne. was beelzebub telling people about his sewer spelunking habits. ]

Was that something he did often?

I... don't know? I haven't really talked to him much...

No, just that I think he spends enough time in them he'd find anything hidden there eventually.

[He's gotten used to the smell, which clearly means he spends an ungodly amount of time in there.]

Right, but um, if him being there is the reason for ruling out the possibility of hiding evidence by throwing it in the sewers, then that means whoever was hypothetically trying to hide evidence knew that Beelzebub would be down there already, right?

[ that sentence was a mouthful, he's almost confused himself? ]

[Oh, Vayne...]

Kid, you're overthinking a joke.

[Patpats him on the head...]

It's more likely they couldn't get him to the sewers than actual concern they'd be caught by Beelzebub, specifically. If they were too weak to carry him, that'd mean having to take multiple trips there, yeah? That would leave more chances to get caught if it weren't for us being forced to sleep.

You don't have to think so hard about everything, all the time.

Would have also been discovered a lot quicker, even leaving aside Beelzebub.
