TRIAL ONE

TRIAL

Once the various investigations have concluded, and the majority of the evidence has been dropped off with Makima and the ducks -- said ducks will scatter to start shepherding any travelers along to JojaMart, for some reason! Those already at JojaMart have a little less walking to do. Meantime, Makima has loaded the evidence onto the daycare wagon -- carefully packaged, because who wants a spill here -- and driven it off after the ducks.

There is, in fact, a back entrance to the JojaMart -- almost like a loading bay, but once it's opened and the wagon has been driven in, you can see that there's a small podium there along with a number of chairs and small tables. It looks like extra pieces used in either the Community Center or other areas around town may be stored here. The ceiling is tall and it's roomy, there's a scant few windows, but the white LED ceiling lighting and rather bare interior is only livened up by some larger spare whiteboards, extra shelving containing tools and knickknacks and a plant or two.

Once everyone is in -- Adela, Makima, a number of assistant ducks and the current inhabitants of the village -- the loading bay door is tugged closed by some enterprising assistants. There's a small door that probably leads into the front of JojaMart, but that's it. One of the ducks sets about serving tea in the slightly gloomy atmosphere.

You're welcome to examine the evidence in the wagon, discuss amongst yourselves, and figure out whodunnit in these first murders.

(( OOC: Welcome to your first trial! You'll have 7 hours (until 8 PM EST/5 PM PST) to vote one (1) person guilty of murder. As this is scapegoat style, a correct vote is not necessary. Please remember to vote unless otherwise discussed with the mods, as that is our AC for this game. ))

blacksmith pt 1

[personal profile] enkiboo 2024-03-09 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Here is Enkidu ]

Oh, I was in the blacksmith's area, and found that the forge was on; I needed to shut it off before Wei and I could use the tongs to get anything out.

I managed to get something that seemed like a scrap of fabric; it looks like it used to be white.

blacksmith part 2!

[personal profile] unenvying 2024-03-09 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, there were a couple of things stuck in the forge which, you know, probably means that someone was probably trying to hide their existence a bit~

[ anyway he is reaching into his swooshy robes and pulling out a couple of things. he'll dump that in evidence later. ]

Other than the scrap of cloth - there's like a rod shaped object that probably might have been a hammer at some point, dunno, it's kinda melted around the edge a bit? And a lump that looks like a bunch of things melted together into a ball. It's... well it's not that heavy? But at least one things in there had a handle and it looked like it was made from tools so.

Oh, and there was some ash at the bottom of the forge, stuck my head in to check when it wasn't hot.

Aha. Most likely the tools used to tear down and rebuild the drywall.

[personal profile] driftingknight 2024-03-09 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
... is rebuilding drywall something that takes much skill or knowledge?

[He's used to wood, so! He has no clue.]
theotherww: (suddenly)

[personal profile] theotherww 2024-03-09 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
If you don't worry about the finer details, you just need to know how to make drywall mud and mix it, and then use a spackle knife to spread it over the wall and put the pieces back into place. Some kind of knife or saw and a sanding tool would also be helpful.

driftingknight: (Redemption)

[personal profile] driftingknight 2024-03-09 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
And does this also require a considerable amount of time?

[Trying to establish some sort of timeline here, go...?]
theotherww: (decided)

[personal profile] theotherww 2024-03-09 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends. If you know what you're doing you can cover a room with drywall in around an hour. This was just one section of the wall, but if they have to create their own mud and possibly craft the tools-- [Unless they have spackle knife sets in the Jojamart, Walter didn't check] -it'd still take at least an hour if we're being generous.

Thank you, Walter-san. So the killer would have had to take at least an hour after killing Keito-san to inter his body in the wall...

Not to mention the time needed to carefully cut off the limbs.

Would this be a skill one could learn in our week of captivity?

[A couple days to learn and a couple hours to actually complete, at a maximum. Not exactly a good trade school timeline]

What's drywall?????? Is it something you have to take apart specially?

[ explain for the ancient person ]
faildeus: (pic#17048540)

[personal profile] faildeus 2024-03-09 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It's modern construction material. Much cheaper than wood or concrete, but less durable.

[hi what's drywall pt 3]

Is that a material that can be found in one of the shops?
faildeus: (pic#17048547)

[personal profile] faildeus 2024-03-09 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll be honest with you, I haven't looked.

[ he shrugs. ]

But back home, they're usually sold by the sheets. Like... you can find it in any common hardware store.
theotherww: (A guy)

[personal profile] theotherww 2024-03-09 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Walter sighs. How dare you remind him that his experiences aren't universal.]

What Faldeus said. It's less time-consuming to build than lath and plaster, but it comes with its own problems. And frees up hollow space to hide a body, in the case of our culprit.
provocatives: (1)

[personal profile] provocatives 2024-03-09 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
A rod-shaped object, eh? Must've been quite hard... if it wasn't melted into a puddle like the rest.
faildeus: (pic#17048532)

[personal profile] faildeus 2024-03-09 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Were they hiding the clothes that they wore for the murder?
enkiboo: (✿ sunshine)

[personal profile] enkiboo 2024-03-09 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably.

It could've helped pinpoint the culprit's general size, perhaps.
faildeus: (pic#17044035)

[personal profile] faildeus 2024-03-09 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Well that's a shame. It would've been so easy to figure it out that way.

[ he chuckles wryly to himself. if only they had a stupid culprit. ]
enkiboo: (✿ rain)

[personal profile] enkiboo 2024-03-09 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[ IF ONLY, RIGHT... ]

Yes, it certainly would've.

In a way, I suppose it isn't too surprising whoever did it would have gone to such great pains.
liberazoth: (dream of the black cat ✴)

[personal profile] liberazoth 2024-03-09 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually wonder if it might have been whatever they put... someone on to drag them around, since Mio said the drag marks she saw were pretty wide. [ zelos not so much, but. ] Did, um, either Sampo or Keito look like they were dusty or sandy from being dragged around...?
faildeus: (pic#17048544)

[personal profile] faildeus 2024-03-09 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't know, personally. [ it's not like he was there with the body, man. ]

But if the drag marks were more uniform then...maybe? Sampo was also a pretty tall guy.
hyperbloom: (kuki014)

[personal profile] hyperbloom 2024-03-09 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Let me check on that.

[ BRB ]
hyperbloom: (kuki009)

[personal profile] hyperbloom 2024-03-09 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She's back! ]

Keito's got a lot of dust on him, probably from the drywall thing. As for Sampo, he's got some dirt traces on his pajamas, yeah.

liberazoth: (a gap to the darkness ✴)

[personal profile] liberazoth 2024-03-09 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Then I guess whatever the cloth was... probably wasn't used to keep the two of them from. Um. Getting dirty while being dragged around.

[ well, there goes that idea. maybe it was just murder clothes after all. ]
