After the news from the town hall, Puffin Town might not seem as tranquil as before—if it ever did. But the sun dawns, and the rooster crows on a new week, that seems peaceful enough, for now. There's farming to be done for those who don't want to subsist off the vast canned food selection at Joja Mart, or you could take up your hand fishing or even venturing into the mines.

If you want to lay around on the grass taking count of the shapes in the clouds no one will stop you, an eager duck might even stop by to give you a pillow; but the cost of the harvest looms overhead, even if you choose not to see it.

And so too does: confetti? Monday, at precisely noon, everyone will find themselves showered with confetti from seemingly nowhere. The culprit largely seems to be the ducks, but if you're somewhere closed off like bathroom, there's no obvious instigator in sight. Though if you squint real hard, you might see the wisps of something? It's hard to see through all the colorful paper, though. Regardless, you'll soon find yourself accosted by a duck with a flyer, printed and worn:

Festival!

Do you find the walls of your cottage drab? Do you want to add a special touch to make your home YOURS? Stop by the general store this week and pick up some art supplies to decorate your life! NOTE: Puffin town does not take responsibility for any damage incurred during the decorating process. Participation will be rewarded with an item from the community stockpile! Please see the event organizer in the community center to submit your polaroid photograph of your entry. (Polaroids are available at the general store.)

Maybe calling it a festival is a stretch, but it's certainly a group activity nonetheless. And hey, there's even prizes! The duck, ever eager, presses another paper into your hand, though this one is handwritten, in a cursive elegant hand.

[He walks on in the dim torchlight, shining it against the walls in search of another slime.

Since the mines are teeming with the things, it’s not long until they come across another one.]

Get ready.

[It launches itself at Beelzebub again and he bats it toward Noah with the flat end of the shovel.]

[revelate]

On it!

[Noah turns his pickaxe so the slime meets the side of it, swatting it down onto the ground. The slime survives, splattered and spread across the floor of the mine, but Noah keeps it pressed beneath the side of the pickaxe so it can't get up before Beelzebub's had his chance to ogle it.]

[sorathvau]

[Oh, it’s able to be held in place like that, how interesting. He’d think it’d be able to wriggle free.

Crouching down, he gives it a tentative poke with his finger. He mutters indiscernibly to himself, then looks up at Noah.]

Do you think you could hold it?

[revelate]

I can try.

[As the slime regains form, it's starting to mold itself around his pickaxe. Uh.]

How long is this going to take?

[With his pickaxe being held in place by the slime, Noah takes a knee and. Holds it. Almost immediately, it starts sucking in his hands.]

[How very interesting! It acts like he’d predicted, but it’s good to know.]

Just a little while longer. You don’t mind, do you?

[Does he want to see how much of Noah it can suck in? Yes.]

[revelate]

I do, actually.

[Sir? He did not sign up for the slime hentai experience.]

If you're that curious, give holding onto it a shake.

[Here. He'll even stick out his globby slimy hands for Beelzebub to take the creature. He's betting he won't.]

[Beelzebub reaches for it, letting the slime overtake his hand. Guess he and Noah are conjoined by goop right now.]

…It’s gentle. I can imagine it would be suffocating us if we were any smaller.

[His tone is flat, but there’s an admiration in it. Like a freak.]

If they weren’t so fragile, they could be a tough opponent.

[Forced marriage via slime............]

No doubt. This creature has to do what it can to survive just like us.

[Are they both freaks? Possibly.]

They're well-adapted to their environment, I'd imagine. In larger numbers, we'd not be able to deal with them this easily. You should keep that in mind if you're thinking of going deeper into the mines.

[Oh he should, should he?]

I’m curious about how they’d work together. [He glances to Noah, and to their goop’d up hands.] You don’t have anywhere to be?

[revelate]

[How did he know this is where their conversation would go? Noah sighs, taking a moment to consider his proposition.]

If I say no, you'll just run off into danger on your own, won't you?

[Yeah. That's his excuse. It's totally not because Noah is itching to get a little combat practice in.]

We'll need to free ourselves from this guy first. If we move in opposing directions, it should let go eventually.

[sorathvau]

[You know him too well, Noah.

Anyway, he’s so glad. He gives a nod.]

I’ll go left.

[Without even counting down he moves, pulling the slime away.]

[revelate]

Right it is.

[No countdown necessary, it's fine! But ah... this slime is a fair bit more stretchy than Noah had anticipated. You ever swallow too soon when eating a mozzarella stick and get a string of cheese stuck in your throat? That's exactly what this feels like.]

...We may have to figure out a plan B.

[sorathvau]

[Oh no, the mozzarella slime…]

We could cut it.

[He holds up the shovel with his free hand. If he uses the side of it, it should do the trick?]

[revelate]

Can you manage?

[You know, with those goopy mozzarella slime hands?]

Give it a go. It's worth a try.

[sorathvau]

[This would be so much easier if he had his powers back. He could just vibrate this goop right off.

It’s really cumbersome to try to do, but he ends up wielding the shovel in an awkward position. Pulling further away to thin out the slime, he tries bringing it down on the stretched out bit. If this doesn’t work, the shovel’s just a part of him now. This is fine.]

[Dice Maiden said womp womp (2). The slime kindly absorbs the shovel for Beelzebub, holding it in its stretched out core.]

...We really ought to rethink going further in without proper weapons in hand. At this rate, we'd be better of exiting the mines and asking for assistance.

[sorathvau]

[This is. Frustrating. But also, as someone who’s far too used to just winning every fight he gets in, kind of refreshing?]

You still have your pick axe.

[He notes.]

It did the job before.

[Or are you just ready to up and quit??]

[Well, what's the worst thing that could happen? The slime absorbs another weapon? Noah isn't and has never been the type to back down without a fight, so with effort, he lifts his pickaxe enough to take aim at it.]

Let's see if this works.

[Noah takes aim at the center of the slime's body. If his theory is correct, it may have some sort of core that can be damaged if struck at just the right angle.]

Here goes nothing—!

[Dice maiden gave a humble 6. Alas, the pick axe seems to cause the slime to shrink in pain, but it too gets absorbed.]

…It seems we’ve underestimated our enemy.

[Don’t sound so happy about that.]

[revelate]

[Noah, on the other hand, doesn't sound nearly as happy, but he's clearly focused and engaged. They're both enjoying themselves in different ways, it's fine... neither of them are freaks.............]

It seems so. This may take some coordination, but let's try dissolving it in the ocean. It may not be able to hold its form in the water.

[sorathvau]

[They’re both two normal people…]

Let’s do it. I’m eager to find out what its limitations are.

[revelate]

Alright. Let's go.

[Time to Benny Hill run their way down to the beach and probably fail another dice roll trying to resolve this damn slime.]

[sorathvau]

[There they go…!!!

At the beach, they - Jesus Christ they got a 19 that slime is fully DISINTEGRATING the second they put their hands in the water. Maybe even before then. The harsh sea air simply caused it to shrink back in terror.

As it slips out and dissolves, Beelzebub can’t help the look of disappointment in his face.]

Ah…I had high hopes for that one…

[revelate]

[Oh my god? They finally succeeded? Noah... wasn't actually expecting that to work, but it's good to know that if they ever get into any slime-related trouble in the future, they've got a quick solution.

Beelzebub's disappointment is met with an apologetic smile.]

You've got plenty to study back in the mines, and now you know how to get yourself out of trouble. I'd say this was a worthwhile venture.

[He’s still SULKING…]

…After all, we’ve only faced with one of them. Who can say how they act when together?
