WEEK TWO

23 Villagers

Three people have fallen and a tower has risen. Along with it, some of the restraints on your mind have dispersed and a memory has returned to you - is it precious, is it painful? Is it cherished, is it loathed?

Mercilessly, dawn breaks on another morning. The rooster still calls, and the crops still need tending to. Rise and shine, Puffin Town! It seems like the residents are not the only thing that has chosen to rise, as a few more establishments have opened up for exploration. The sound of moo-ing near the farms may feel especially inviting here - how about making some new additions to your farms, to drown out your loneliness?

There is no festival just yet but if you question the ducks on it, some excited quacking will herald fun things to come later in the week. Some of the ducks will also wave the gift notes from last week; regardless of murder, being kind to your neighbors is still encouraged! Can't let our beautiful town sink into gloom and doom, right?

(( OOC: Murder proposals are due by Tuesday at 4 PM EST / 1 PM PST, for the current week's murder, but feel free to submit for later weeks if you like!

We have also added a page to report your Astera planting - this does not need to have been threaded, we're just taking stock on an OOC level.

Further, the Gift Mechanic has been updated. All turned in threads will now yield a character specific item as a reward! We're only dipping into the random gacha once all personalized rewards have been given out.))

[Mio's intentions in coming here aren't quite as nerdily motivated. When a tower sprouts from the ground like one of their fast-growing flowers accompanied by such a painful, obtrusive blast, it basically begs people to explore it.

She's hesitant to interrupt him if he's mid-perusal, but when Dongrang pauses reading or moves to switch between archives, Mio looks up from the volume opened over her wrist.]

This place is much less intimidating than I thought it'd be, save how much there is to read. It'll take us weeks to get through all these books.

I haven't, actually.

[ Sup, Doc! Shinobu has no food on her just yet, as she's only just discovered the vendors, but she peeks over at what he has. ]

What did you end up getting?

Hm? What is it?

[He crouches down to lend his ear to the duck.]

[...Beelzebub gets the feeling he's being watched. Instinctively, he whips around and -

- it's a duck.

As it watches him, he just...stares back, watching it all the same. What are you doing up here, ducky.]

While you can find rabbits and dogs on farms, livestock are a bit different, yes.

[He casts his gaze back to the animals beyond the fence, this time with a bit more focus.]

If you decide to take one back to our farm, I suppose I could give you a few pointers.

[The duck reaches forward....]

[And nabs Dongrang's glasses off his face! It plops them on their face, blinking, before it clears its throat.]

[And then quacks, with a lower tone.]

Quack. Quackquackquack.

[It makes serious little gestures like a little scientist. Yes, its mimicking you, Dongrang.]

[Oh! It was noticed! The duck is a little frazzled by being seen, but it gathers itself.]

[And waves! Hello! Hi!]

Maybe he's hungry?

[Mio has with her a half-eaten skewer from the food carts - it tastes a little like Armu, but it's clearly something else she's never had before. Just another strange difference, another unexpected first as she discovers how very different all these worlds can be.

She peels a piece of meat from the skewer and holds it out to Lucifer in the palm of her hand, eyes flicking to Beelzebub briefly for permission to reach out. Her ears move in time with cat's, but it might not be appropriate to point that out?]

[ ohhhh. vayne thinks he gets it. ]

Oh, so like birdhorses, then?

[…hello there.]

What are you doing here?

[Help him he's blind now.]

Ah-

[He lets out an embarrassed but amused laugh.]

You're quite the prankster, aren't you? Can I have those back, please?

[It sounds like its letting out a little quacky chuckle.]

[And then its]

[walking away help]

[It makes this noise with a shrug.]

[Its then pointing to the book in Beelzebub's hand, curious.]

[How curious.]

You want to read it…?

[He tilts the book up slightly so that the duck can get a good look at the cover - it’s on fairytales, from the looks of it.]

[It's impossible to ignore the livestock show with all the noise coming from it, and Mio starts her day there, resting her arms on the top bar of a paddock fence (she has to stand on the lower plank to reach it) and watching cows lounge.]

Are those baby ones? They're so much smaller than the rest. [She never really thought about it that way; it was only recently that she really tried to dissect the way herds of monsters worked in the wild or that smaller ones grew up to be big ones.] That would mean separating them if you don't take the pair, though, and what if they're not ready to be parted from each other?

[In the late morning, after she may or may not be the new owner of a young cow and its calf, Mio can be found training down on the beach, using the sand for resistance. More specifically, she's sprinting the length of it and back again, doing her best to time the laps using her phone. Every so often, she'll go to the cliff face to try a stretch or an arm hang, but she mostly stays running.

Much later in the day, her sore muscles are getting a needed soak in the warm pool at the spa. Anyone in the women's changing room with her beforehand might have caught her checking the mark on her neck in the mirror before she finished changing and went out to the water. Though she's a little droopy from the heat, if she backs herself against a wall and rests her back against it, it's perfectly relaxing. She can spare herself a moment here, even if it never feels like the time to relax in this place. After a while, she's so still it seems like she could be sleeping, unless someone chances close enough to hear her humming slightly.]

[ Well, that's weird. Maybe Erika made him snap. ]

Y-yeah... maybe they're like us and didn't get spirited away until this morning...

[ Amy blinks, hands coming back from the way she'd clearly been about to try to grab a chicken. ]

Maybe, but... really, is it any different from humans feeding other humans?

[ Amy wrings her hands, turning from where she'd been peeking inside a locker to investigate. ]

Um, people sit around in places like this when they have a lot of time to kill and want to relax...

Horns, huh? [ Scratches his head. ] Can't really picture it. The one I know of has armor and usually only appears when we summon Odin, yo.

Man, remembering this whole different worlds thing is hard. [ Talking ducks and murder seems more normal over people not knowing chocobos apparently ]

They are like really freaking huge birds you can ride on. Think like these but much more cuter.

[ Farm. Birds. He's going to pretend that totally some how makes sense for now. ]

Is that impressive or something?

Birdhorses? [ He knows what's a bird is but... ] The hell is a horse?

[ Thinking about that ]

Huh. I suppose not. Never thought of it like that.

[It shakes its head, coming closer - it still looks a little wary, like its half expecting Beelzebub to do a jumpscare. But, it insistently points between the man and the book and back again, as if to say "why this?"]

Do they? Modern facilities really do have interesting concepts.

[ Not to mention, relatively convenient... ]

In a way, it is a bit extravagant, isn't it?
