afterparty.... yay....

So, how many people actually saw that coming ICly?

The movie theater has been Chosen, with alcohol and juice brought from the saloon, as well as a few of the easier to move bar games. There's no movies playing just yet, but there's comfy chairs and plenty of options for people who don't fancy being all on their lonesome right now.

Teach him some self-respect, for one: the way he talked about dying with that other kid and how his life didn't matter is just weak-minded thinking. If you think you're going to die, have some dignity about it.

Maybe get him some better hobbies too. And definitely don't tell him that I didn't plan on having him.

[He'd never tell Holly that even if it was partly the truth. He and Skyler didn't expect Holly, but they still wanted her.]

[Healy nods slowly, not necessarily in total agreement but he respects the stance. Walter's got sense (no). That's good (healy no).]

Bad parenting might be what did him in, sure. Society likely helped.

[Not that he knows anything about where Sora's from, but even so. No one winds up that deranged if they're from a utopia.]

Kids know too much these days. I run into a lot of perverts in my line of work, you know? Creeps that prey on teenagers. Last job I worked, this guy was getting a little too friendly with a girl barely out of junior high.

The worst part? She was egging him on. He'd bought her some clothes and some kind of handbag. She was using him. Kid was fourteen.

[He shakes his head grimly. He's not shocked by that kind of thing anymore, but that's bothersome in and of itself. It should be shocking.]

Fourteen's too young, but it's old enough to know better. That same sentiment could be applied to almost everyone here.

[Walter grimaces. He's seen young children get murdered before, sure, but the type of perverts who go after teenagers are a realm he hasn't seen enough to get desensitized to. Maybe it's the father in him. Were it his kids, Walter would want to kill whoever went after them personally.]

Christ. That doesn't get much better the more time passes. ...most I can do is give my kids the best example I can while I'm still around.

[He hasn't done the greatest job at that considering where he is now, but if he's done everything right he can at least make sure Walter Jr. and Holly are provided for.]

[He heaves out a sigh.]

Figures.

[Of course it doesn't get better. It's a snowball effect. But clearly society hasn't crumbled entirely by 2009. Maybe it's a slow decline, at least.

But, wait a minute. Healy frowns.]

While you're still around? You can't be talking like that. We're the same age, pal. And you're gonna live to be 130 with all the medical advancements you must have in the 21st century.

cw terminal illness

The progress isn't as fast as you're imagining. You can look forward to better antibiotics and advanced x-rays, but otherwise? We're still stuck focusing more on treatment than cures.

[Walter for a moment debates if he even wants to talk about dying of cancer. The last thing he wants is pity, and the second-to-last thing he wants is to look like an easy target. However, he's painted himself into a corner talking the way he is, and this place sucks enough.]

I wasn't actually expecting to survive this long. The date they gave me might be coming up soon, actually. [He can't help a humorless laugh at that.] But I won't be making it to my daughter's fourteenth birthday. Possibly not even her second.

Ah. And here I was hoping we'd all be flying around in electric cars by the 90s.

[Later, Healy will realize this explains a lot about Walter's behavior here. But luckily for Walter, Healy isn't the pitying type.]

That's some shit luck. Your kid got someone to look after her while you're here?

[Or after he's gone, either or. Healy has no idea if time is passing while they're trapped in farm hell.]

It's funny, I don't really dread it. I mostly don't want to die here because I'd hate being written off as a sacrifice for some insane ritual. Once I'm out though? There's only a few things left that I need to do. Otherwise...

[Maybe he really has lived too long. From what he remembers, what he'd gathered to provide for his family might not get to them, and there's likely a call for his arrest if he's putting the pieces of his memory together correctly. If he wasn't alive for Hank to find out about him, or drifted off for good back when he heard Skyler's voice lulling their baby to sleep, he would have done everything perfectly.]

Well. Holly's still got her mother. If there's anyone who'll keep the kids from going down a dark road, it's my wife.

Sounds like you're taking things in stride. That's a good outlook to have, facing down your death.

[Healy likes to think he'd have the same approach. sans cooking meth but what can ya do.]

You've got to be looking at getting out of here soon, though. If your time's running that short and you've still got a bucket list. Any of us have a medical emergency here and we're shit out of luck.
