Second Execution

EXECUTION

Another trial, another execution to follow, a terrible routine but routine nonetheless. Come mid morning, the ducks will be out passing out flyers for the sentencing of Beelzebub, to take place in front of the Wizard's Tower. Attendance isn't required, but strongly encouraged.

After how the picnic blankets went over last time they don't make a reappearance, replaced instead by long tables stacked with what appears to be a take on comfort food: various onigiri (tuna, umeboshi, tenmusu, omurice) coupled with an absolutely giant stack of pancakes. Regular pancakes, chocolate chip, blueberry, there's even a funfetti variety, with syrup and butter included, naturally. The beverages this time are coffee, tea, and fruit juices.

At exactly five minutes to noon, the doggy daycare wagon pulls up with several occupants inside: your town representatives of course, the convicted, and the executioner.

(( OOC: Welcome to your second execution! Attendance is not IC'ly mandatory, but there will be a surprise for all characters at its conclusion, regardless of whether they're present or not. ))

[ Shinobu is off to the side at the picnic, not wanting to draw attention, not wanting to take away from Beelzebub's final moments. She sees the onigiri.

She picks one up...and sits down in the back, crosslegged. She holds it in her palms, which are situated in her lap, and doesn't eat it. It reminds her of home.

One hand moves up to wipe at her eyes. ]

unlike last time, he's watching the wagon in silence, solemn and quiet. ]

[There's someone else who is definitely feeling the same way about today's food choices. He's not entirely sure what the meaning of the selection is - if there even is one - but if he had to guess... well.

He'll just sit down beside her and gently put a hand on her shoulder, an invitation for her to lean if she would like.]

[Noah may have sat the first execution out, but he has no intention of looking away from Beelzebub's. He has his reasons for being here and watching on, of course, but so does everyone else. He'll pass on the free food.]

[ Ah, she's been caught. How embarrassing. She doesn't lean, instead opting to wipe at her eyes one more time before she ducks her head, just enough for her to hide her eyes. ]

Hey, I'm fine. Don't worry about me.

[ Death is approaching, after all. ]

Hells yeah. More chow, yo. [ Something about the pancakes reminds of Bibi, so he will hesitate for a moment before stacking a bunch on a plate to eat. ]

[He'll remove his hand for the time being, but he isn't moving. She stayed by his side (and Kurapika's and Eisuke's) when it mattered, now it's his turn to do the same.]

[After being wagoned in, Beelzebub stands before the tower. One wouldn't think he was a man about to die from the way he looks out vacantly at everyone gathered. There's no sadness, no fear. Just that dull, disinterested gaze everyone's been used to seeing over the past two weeks.

Really, they should hurry up with this.]

[ Unlike last time, Kurapika doesn't remark on whether or not the spread of food before them is disrespectful, especially as the change from picnic blankets is a good one.

But... he's still lacking an appetite, so all he does is wait and watch in silence. ]

[ This duck is here again. Staring at a certain two over there, instead of the main show. ]

[ Which two is the ducky gaze upon? ]

You still have nothing to say, do you? You'll stand here until the end and say that this is what you want from this world...

[Those who've talked combat with Mio or seen her practicing with the adventurer's guild weapons (or light farm tools) over the past two weeks will know that she favors dual-wielding small, agile weapons.

Extremely strange, then, for her to walk off the wagon with a katana. It's sleeker than anything you might find at the guild: black-hilted, slender, glinting with an imperceptibly sharp edge. There's another, thin, barely visible object tucked into her belt that goes ignored for now. Mio takes a few steps closer to Beelzebub, then pauses, gaze lowering.]

How long...? [She begins, her voice perhaps only just loud enough to reach the town overseers and the pancake breakfast. The thought trails off, for now.]

[ In comparison, the blue sweatered duck is nowhere to be found. ]

[ Pausing his munching as his two farm-mates make an appearance. ]

So it's like that, huh? [ Time to go back to eating, but he'll watching them as he does ]

[ This ducky is watching Adela and Makima closely, waiting to see if anyone tries anything again. ]

[ This duck looks away to give Nine a very flat what-do-you-think sort of look at the question. ]

[ Give the rusty hamster wheel in his head a moment to start going. ]

Huh? [ Looking at duck then back at the pair ] Was it the whole badass display from last time?

[ well, faldeus is here, though in the back of the picnic area. he holds an onigiri in his hands, sighing as he takes a bite out of it. ]

[Beelzebub's face contorts into a smile. It spreads across his cheeks, prods at his eyes.]

Please...finally kill me.

[ Have a duckie shake head Nine. It goes back to look at them, looking serious. ]

[Free breakfast is free breakfast. Walter mostly sticks to coffee during the execution itself giving the associations of syrup.]

Interesting how they insist on making us execute the guilty. Psychological conditioning, perhaps.

[He is not nearly somber enough for this occasion, but he doesn’t feel bad for Beelzebub.]
