WEEK TWO

23 Villagers

Three people have fallen and a tower has risen. Along with it, some of the restraints on your mind have dispersed and a memory has returned to you - is it precious, is it painful? Is it cherished, is it loathed?

Mercilessly, dawn breaks on another morning. The rooster still calls, and the crops still need tending to. Rise and shine, Puffin Town! It seems like the residents are not the only thing that has chosen to rise, as a few more establishments have opened up for exploration. The sound of moo-ing near the farms may feel especially inviting here - how about making some new additions to your farms, to drown out your loneliness?

There is no festival just yet but if you question the ducks on it, some excited quacking will herald fun things to come later in the week. Some of the ducks will also wave the gift notes from last week; regardless of murder, being kind to your neighbors is still encouraged! Can't let our beautiful town sink into gloom and doom, right?

(( OOC: Murder proposals are due by Tuesday at 4 PM EST / 1 PM PST, for the current week's murder, but feel free to submit for later weeks if you like!

We have also added a page to report your Astera planting - this does not need to have been threaded, we're just taking stock on an OOC level.

Further, the Gift Mechanic has been updated. All turned in threads will now yield a character specific item as a reward! We're only dipping into the random gacha once all personalized rewards have been given out.))

[This week, it's Mio who blasts everyone's phones with a short message.

Everyone.

It's been a few days, and I think the festival yesterday was well-needed. Thank you to everyone who came by. The calf's new name is Aster.

We're still dealing with a situation none of us expected thrust upon us. Let's meet at the movie theater at sundown. There's food and seating for everyone. The circumstances may seem more dire now, but I believe there are still more answers for us to find. Let's work together for as long as we can moving forward.

People who come by a little early will find Mio writing on some Joja stationery or reading, the normal braid in her hair loose and undone.]

MEMORIES

This is unlikely to be an unpleasant topic for many, but we can only learn more by reviewing what we know about the memories regained a few days ago. It might also help us better understand any connections between what's been taken and why, so if anyone wants to share their observations, now would be the time.

[ She doesn't seem exceptionally keen on talking about what she remembered, but she'll speak anyway. ]

I remembered people that I shouldn't have forgotten.

[ ... ]

My family. And they aren't related to me by blood.

Multiple people? How many memories of yours did that impact?

[ Because wow. ]

A lot, actually.

[ And actually I fucked up explaining this so: ] Let me rephrase that. I knew who they were this whole time, but it's my relationship with them that I didn't remember until now.

They were strangers to me until this point. All of the events with us as a group were gone...and I only vaguely remember a specific incident that occurred when I was with one of them – the Boss himself.

[moonblades]

So not your [her mouth fits the words a little awkwardly] parents or siblings, but other people who were the most close to you?

[She pauses.] And you forgot every memory you'd ever had of them, all at once?

Memories that we shared together were forgotten, yeah. I didn't remember being part of the group at all, even if I had a vague idea of who they were as individuals.

[ ... ]

I remember being in a sticky situation with Boss, though. I just didn't realize that we were that close.

I remembered something that contextualizes a lot of other things I knew to be true before I got the memory back. So, it was important, at the very least.

[ He pauses. ]

It wasn't a good memory, so forgive me for not sharing it here. I'll be happy to do so in private, if anyone would really like to know.

[ Some things just aren't great meeting topics. ]

[Mio gives him a single nod of understanding.] Don't feel like you have to push yourself.

Do you feel like it's more important to return to your home now?

[ He smiles at her, just a tad soft. Almost immediately, his frown returns. ]

I do. I know just how important it is to finish what I was doing back home. Not that I didn't before, but... it's different now.

... I remembered the true nature of one of my companions from my world.

[And he does not look or sound happy about this at all!]

[No, it certainly doesn't sound good - at least what she can infer from his tone.]

Something they'd hidden from you, or something that you didn't want to believe was true?

Something she herself hadn't remembered for quite some time. It wasn't that she had been hiding it, but rather that she didn't have her full memories either.

Ironic that the two of us could have been at each other's sides for as long as we were without realizing the truth...

[ he doesn't look particularly happy nor eager to be offering an answer, but since it will probably help the group and help with figuring out limits... ]

Someone I ... really shouldn't have forgotten, since they've been with me as far as I can remember.

[ so that was... well, pretty extensive memory editing. ]

Every memory you had of them?

[Mio gasps, surprised and worried. Perhaps she sees the hesitation in his reply, though, because she doesn't commit to pushing Vayne much harder.]

It must be difficult now. You must miss them quite a lot.

Every single one. My first real memory is of him, even ... but anywhere he was supposed to be, there just wasn't anything for me to question. It made sense that there wasn't anyone there.

[ so. fun things. ]

But I guess ... I do know what it is that was blacked out on my plaque now.

[Hm. That could either be a positive memory or a negative one, but he's so hesitant to say more about it... Mio just nods her thanks for the information he has to provide.]

Too much to ask for it to also have given some context as to how or why you might have ended up here. Would you say it was the whole day or something you didn't fully understand about what happened then?

[She'll mirror his rather evasive approach to said context.]

Yep. Still no clue how that happened.

...it wasn't the whole day, just a piece of it that I'd forgotten until now. Not a pleasant one either.

I remembered performing an act that was considered 'rebellion against the gods'.

I remembered my master. And some of the... associated memories therein.

You were one of the first people to point out that kind of discrepancy. [Erika might have even been expecting something like this... she's got this kind of logic mastered in a way that Mio certainly hasn't.]

A lot of these memories returning would make anyone think again about not trying to escape, but I think there's something else they have in common. For many of us, they seem to be things that drive us forward. [Things that define them. Things that give them some kind of purpose.]

[Though the rest of the discussion has probably been sobering, this might add a little levity to the chat at the end of the day.]

Has anyone been receiving packages from the ducks that are a little more odd than the others? [They're all a bit odd, but a book is at least a book as compared to some of the things that have been unwrapped.]

I'd love to pass along what I've received so someone else might get some joy out of it, but I don't see how anyone's desperate to be handed a paper crown.
